What is a demon in Tibetan Buddhism?

The idea of the demon is an expression of our thoughts and emotions held in the body-mind complex. When we think about energy movement to transform negative energies into positive ones, the form of the demon is the form of anger (or other negative feelings) that you hold in your body-mind.

Demons in the sense we use the word are not ghosts, goblins or creatures of the devil. When Machig  Labdrön was asked how she would describe demons, she replied, "That which is called a demon is not some big black thing that petrifies everyone who sees it. A demon is anything that hinders the attainment of freedom.”

Buddhist Wisdom

For this course, we have made the ancient demon practice easily accessible without distorting or compromising the mystical essence and transformative power.

The method goes back to Machig Labdrön, a Tibetan yogini from the 11th century. Her teachings on demons have influenced all schools of Tibetan Buddhism. Her life is an inspiring story of a dedicated practitioner, a brilliant teacher and a loving mother.

Machig was conceived and born accompanied by numerous auspicious dreams and signs. She developed her spiritual gifts from an early age. She was fortunate to have great teachers who recognised her talent and encouraged her to develop her teachings.

She dedicated her life to the development of this ground-breaking method, which is now recognised by all the schools and lineage of Tibetan Buddhism.

During her lifetime, hundreds of thousands of people gathered to listen to public debates in which Machig demonstrated her profound understanding of spiritual psychology.

“No tree can grow to heaven unless its roots reach down to hell.” - C.G. Jung

The psychoanalyst Carl Jung referred to the negative energies within us collectively as "shadows".

His research revealed very similar results to those of the Buddhist teachers over 1000 years ago: that dealing with the shadow and the parts of the personality we have suppressed is so powerful that it can transform the whole person and heal both emotionally and mentally.

The method enables us to release these shadows, which consume much of our strength and release positive energy.

WELCOME & NAMASTE

I'm Ralf Eisend

Many people who meditate sometimes feel that they are not making progress with their mindfulness practice and that it is not helping them enough to find calm and inner peace.
Their fears and emotional problems remain.

During my travels and research in Nepal and Tibet, I rediscovered an ancient Buddhist technique for resolving inner conflicts such as fear, anxiety and negative emotions like anger or dissatisfaction.
This practice is not experimental or new. It has been used for centuries and by thousands of people to relieve emotional suffering.

The practice goes far beyond the usual calming and mindfulness meditations.
It originated in Tibet and is practised in all Tibetan Buddhist schools.

This powerful practice is easy to learn.
I show you exactly how to take the burden off your shoulders and live free from stress and anxiety.

Thank you Ralf!

I like your down to earth way of explaining a complicated idea into such simple words. I can say the teaching you give is very powerful in the way the demons are taken by the horns so to speak and confronted with love and compassion, as they are also part of our make up. I felt a great surge of positive energy coming back to me through the true understanding of my own demons, and seeing them for what they truly are, and seeing them disappear, forever! I thank you from my heart for making my heart lighter! I really look forward to more of your teachings my brother.

Thank you once again! Namaste!

- Paul B.

I was very sceptical in the beginning. Maybe I did not want to face my inner demons, or I actually did not believe in their existence. So once you are looking into their (your own !) eyes, it shatters your world, obviously. It took me a few days to get over this. Back in track now, with more self-confidence, in better harmony with myself, and my closest ones, thanks to this quite long but very liberating exercise!

This course offers insights for beginning and advanced meditators and explores the historical and psychological aspects of dissolving your demons through practical exercises. I didn't want this course to end. It's well organized, and the lectures are concise and continue to resonate. The sound design is great with images and recordings from Ralf's travels to Tibet. The meditation sequence we learned is probably going to become a lifetime practice it resonated so deeply.
